We went to Vegas a couple of weeks ago so that Greg could attend a portrait photography seminar. He learned so much and got A TON out of it. I LOVED spending a couple of days without photography. Don't get me wrong, I love photography, but I needed a wee bit of a break.

I love this photo. It was my idea to put our arms out. Greg's not so into it. Ellie wasn't a fan of the hot weather. She said that she wanted it to be Christmas so it was cold. Speaking of, Ellie loved Las Vegas too! She said that everything was SO amazing! She saw Spiderman on the street and apparently that's all she remembered from Las Vegas. She loved the Bellagio fountains, and the indoor gardens. She's such a sweetie.

Chunky Monkey

When I woke up this morning it wasn't long before I heard "little chunky" waking up. When I grabbed him out of his crib he was wearing this adorable monkey suit. It turns out that Mckenzie bought this monkey outfit from Gymboree yesterday. So I wasted no time getting him in front of my camera. SO CUTE.

Two sick kiddles

I have two sick kiddles. :( Actually three if you count the daddy. :( They all have fevers, snotty noses, aches and pains, and ellie has been throwing up. She has held this green bowl next to her face all day. She takes it to the bathroom with her and she even fell asleep with it. When she walks around the house she doesn't just hold it to the side of her, she walks with it directly under her chin. It's hilarious!

Ellie said she's throwing up because she had too many naps. I have been so ridiculously busy in getting family photo sessions back to people that everyone got kicked to the back burner when my kids needed me. I love these two so much!

Oh, and quick update...

My little boy is growing up sooo fast. He's huge - 19 lbs, 90 percentile in length and 75 percentile with the size of his melon. He's so adorable. He loves to eat, cuddle, sleep, and then later play with his silly toys. I shot these just after waking up the other morning right beside the window. Nothing like "God's light" as John Reese put it. I love my little boy - he makes his daddy proud.

Every year we pay homage to the beach house of old. :) My family has been going to this beach house since before I was born.

This was the first year that I could tell that Ellie was building and retaining memories. She absolutely had the time of her life. She thought that we moved there, because we've recently moved to our new house. She thought that we were now living with Pappie, Jeanne, and BJ's Family. She loved the beach and of course Disneyland. I don't have any photos of Disneyland because Greg thought it would be a great idea to buy a disposable film camera. He took a wedding photography class taught by Jonathan Canlas at UVU. Jonathan only shoots in film, so Greg is kind of going through a stage of loving film a little too much. :) I'll post those photos once I get the film developed.

The night before we left I had a wedding. I came home from the reception and starting processing photos. I had a certain amount of photo sessions that had to be processed before I left. So I pulled and all nighter and we left at 6 am that next morning. I also had a family portrait photo session on the beach on Tuesday evening. Then we went to Disneyland on Wednesday. We stayed until late late. I woke up the next morning at 5 am to catch a plane back to Utah to shoot a reception on Thursday evening. I know... isn't it craziness how ridiculously busy my life is right now? Then February comes, and I'm twiddling my fingers... Anyway. I had an absolute wonderful time and I took some wonderful memories home.

This is the first year of doing this. Angela came over with the boys to teach us the art of making homemade dill pickles just like "Grandma Deakins" did for so many years. It was a such a good experience and it'll be our new annual tradition. Thanks Angela!

I came home this evening after a family session. I pushed the garage door opener, then Greg came outside and sat on the steps. Just then I hear the familiar sound of a little yellow scooter zoom around the corner. It was so great to see my Mom on her Honda Metropolitan scooter. I had her take a couple of shots outside our house.
I can't even describe how ridiculously blessed and happy I am. I can't believe that I have a kitchen, a TV, two bathrooms, and a room for Harrison. I walk through my house at night and I want to give a hug to the door knobs, and light fixtures. I am completely obsessed with every single blasted piece of my home. It means the WORLD to me to have my little family eating dinner at the table and then cleaning up and going to bed. I can't describe it. It is so heavenly. I am so extremely grateful for the blessings that have come along the way. There's no way we would have been able to get here without the Lord's help. I LOVE MY LIFE!!!! AHHHHHH!!!!

Harrison was born on February 22nd. He came 2 weeks and 1 day early. I wasn't expecting to go all the way to my due date. He was 8 lbs and 15 ounces. So pretty much 9 pounds! I started having contractions at 1 am. The day before I had tried really really hard to "over do it" so that I could put myself into labor. So I went to the grocery store and made lunch and dinner. Doing those simple things just put me over!
With Ellie, my water broke at 4 am. I woke up and told Greg that my water broke. He doesn't do well if he's woken up out of his sleep. He stood up and grabbed the sheets off the bed and took them to the washer. He also ran around in circles trying to get things together, but not really getting anywhere with it. So when my contractions started, I didn't want him to get all crazy on me, so I texted him. :)
He was a lot nicer that way. We went to the hospital, and at 12:35 pm he was born. It was so different then when Ellie came. I was excited and happy when I held Ellie, but when Harrison came it was a much more intense love. I knew all of the happiness that Ellie had brought into our lives, so it seemed like we were more excited because we knew what was coming. With Ellie we just didn't want her to break, new parents and all.
Ellie just absolutely loves him. The only difference I've seen with her is that she's a little more needy and holds her "Pink Tede" more often. She always needs to know where Baby Harrison is, and if he starts to cry she runs and gets his binky for him. She is such a good big sister, and I know she'll be a big help.
I promise more photos are to come, but here are some from the hospital and at home the first couple of weeks. He's 5 weeks as of today. I LOVE my little family. I am so blessed.

Lots of things going on with the Deakins family

So I am 37 weeks pregnant. I'm dilated to a 3 and 50% effaced. I could have this child any second now. :) So amidst the exciting arrival of our newest addition, we just found out that the bank accepted our offer on a bank owned property. We will close on or before March 11th. We didn't really plan this to all happen at the same time, but they are both really wonderful and exciting things.
Most of you know that we have been living in the basement of my parent's home for 2 1/2 years. We needed to have two complete years of filing taxes as self employed photographers so we've been here until we could get approved for a home loan. I have grown a lot closer to my Mom these past couple of years, and I know that Ellie has loved it. She's actually only known this kind of life, so we're trying to prepare her that she'll only be living with Mom and Dad and Baby Harrison. :)
The house is in Traverse Mountain in Lehi. It's a street away from my good friend Shera Taylor. I am super duper excited to be living so close to her. The basement is gigantic and unfinished which is exactly what we needed for our studio space.
I feel incredibly blessed for our business that has allowed both parents to stay home and work. I look at my life sometimes and just start to cry because I feel like I don't deserve it all. My little girl is so loving and caring. She always gets worried when I have a hard time catching my breath or if it takes me longer to walk somewhere. She gives me hugs and kisses constantly.
My husband is amazing! He's taking 19 credit hours and picking up all of the photo shoots in February and March. I hate to say this but for 2 1/2 months he's been sleeping on the ground. What a trooper! I have such bad back problems so mix that in with a growing pregnant woman, a six foot tall man and a full size bed and it just doesn't work.
Anyway, that's the update for now. I'm not so good at blogging, but I thought I'd try.

Playing in the Snow

This was so much fun! Pretty much the first Snowman that Ellie helped build. Papa and Peachie built theirs and Ellie and I built ours. Sadly, Peachie and Papa's snowman didn't really look like a snowman at all - more a pointed pile of snow. And then the snowball fights...Peachie has a great arm! And then the snow angels by Ellie were adorable. Of course, after playing in the snow we warmed up with hot cocoa. I love our family!

Last week was so busy for me. I reached out to my friends and family to help babysit ellie. One morning last week I woke up and my Mom had put a cup of hot chocolate on my desk with marshmallows. I was so surprised and touched that I had to take a photo of it. I love my Mom! She is the most wonderful, caring, and compassionate person I know.

Summerfest- long overdue

I just found these photos, and I can't believe I didn't process them until now.
Ok, so the Summerfest is near and dear to our hearts, our hearts meaning Greg and McKenzie. It's great because each year we get to make it really important for our family to attend and be just as excited as we are. I love everything about it. I love the breakfast on Saturday morning, the parade, the fireworks and best of all the baby contest. :) Ellie won 3rd place last year and this year she won 3rd place again. I was SO DANG excited for her. She was so cute when she got her little gift bag with her certificate and fruit snacks.
Oh, and then the parade... this was when the weather was still pretending to be Spring. So Greg prepared us with an emergency tarp to be pulled over our heads if it began to rain. So when it started to rain Greg ran behind and threw the tarp on everyone. So the back row had to hold it up for everyone, and the front row pulled the tarp closer to themselves. We were loving it until the parade kind of dwindled and stopped. So we called it a night and went home.
Next year I am praying for good weather because although it made for hilarious photos, it wasn't worth it!

The State Fair

We went to the State Fair on Wednesday. My Mom. My Grandpa. Ellie. Me. We had such a great time. Seeing the livestock was so much fun for Ellie. She loved to touch the sheep because she sleeps with two stuffed sheep each night (Big Baa and Baby Baa). So when she touched their fur she loved it!
The pigs kind of scared her because she thought the flies were bees and they smelled like rotting death. No wonder we eat pigs, they are so filthy and gross that eating them is the best part about them. Sorry if I offend any animal lovers out there, but I'm pretty sure no animal lover has ever seen one of these pigs in real life.
The baby calf that Ellie is petting was only a couple days old. She wanted to pet him so bad. It was adorable.
The best part of the day was when Ellie rode on the horse. I was kind of scared that she would freak out, but the nice cowboy man lifted her up on the horse and she just held on and smiled the entire time. She LOVED it! Oh my goodness, for me, that was definitely a moment I want to never forget.

In all we definitely had a fun time at the fair.

Ellie - 30 Months

Tonight was Devin and Christina' s dinner before their wedding, which is tomorrow. Ellie wore her favorite flowers. She's a little upset as you can see in her eye brows but what are ya gonna do? Some people have asked if we'll photograph our second child as much. Of course and I can't wait!

The interview was for Christina's family bridal shower, which was held at the Weyland residence earlier today. I was a little worried that Ellie wouldn't be able to sit through it, but she totally loved it! She loved the dancing, singing, and mainly the fireworks. She had such a great time! FUN!

Wendover for a night

Greg and I had a bridal session at the Salt Flats about a week and a half ago. We didn't have a babysitter and I really wanted Greg to come because she's a stunning bride. Check out the shoot at www.photobymckenzie.blogspot.com (Chelsea). Anyway, we decided to take Ellie with us and stay the night in Wendover which was just the next exit. Ellie had her own king size bed, that she didn't sleep in, and we were able to go swimming, which Ellie LOVED! This was such a fun fun fun fun fun overnighter.
I love the fact that Ellie is looking straight into the camera and smiling. It was on self timer. We train her well. :)
It was hilarious to see her walk out into the salt flats because she would push and push her stroller until she got tired. Then she walked back without the stroller so she walked all the way back out to get it. She had a ball!

So it's been a couple of months, but better late than never. :) For Greg's 30th birthday, I planned a HUGE suprise party for him. He was going crazy because he knew something was up, but couldn't figure it out. Christina made this fabulous cake for Greg. Very appropriate. His sister Alicia flew out from Spokane, WA to surprise him too. The best part was that we flew up to Spokane to have another party the next day! I guess Greg is loved. My birthday is tomorrow... I wonder what's planned.

Ellie LOVES Marry Poppins. Every night we sing "Spoon Full of Sugar" then she can go to bed. Well, Grandma brought home this little rabbit. We left it up to Ellie to name HIM... HIS name is Mary Rabbit. :) We were going to change it, but it kind of stuck. :) Here's Ellie trying to pick him up and cuddle. Ellie's Nana lives in Spokane, and she is a fantastic seamstress. We received two cute cute dresses in the mail yesterday. Ellie put the green one on and she is obsessed with it. I had to video her tantrum as I tried to get her ready for bed.
As a translation, she is saying "leave it on" in the video. And I feel horrible that she fell at the end. She ended up taking it off and she is now sound asleep with the dress in bed with her.

These photos were taken with my little pink Samsung camera that I can carry in my purse. So don't go and judge me on the quality. I just always want to be prepared and I can't carry around my huge expensive ones. Anyway... now that I've expained that.
For Valentines Day, Greg and I went ice skating. We had such a great time. We then went to Sees Chocolates and bought one pound of our favorite chocolates then we watched our wedding video then we watch The Notebook. That's our tradition. What a FUN day!

Ok, so I have been planning this session for awhile now. I found this GORGEOUS dress at the Gap and waited for it to go on sale. I also bought the matching ballerina flats. Then I had to buy the cute rhinestone clips and the matching gold pearl necklace and bracelet. I LOVE these photos. My baby is such a cutie! Ellie loves to put this dress on. Once she puts it on she will dance in front of the mirror and say "Cute Ellie". I don't know if this is a good thing or a bad thing, but I think it's hilarious. :)

For Greg's birthday I took him to West Yellowstone to go snowmobiling on Saturday. Christina took Devin to celebrate his birthday as well. We had SO much fun, and Greg took way too many photos. He had the good camera and I have my little pink samsung camera in my pocket. So obviously his photos were better than mine. Anyway. We had such a great time!

I saw this place from a distance last year and I have wanted to get in to take some picture since then. Tonight I finally decided to see if I could find it again. It turned out that I had to park about a 1/4 of a mile away and walk in, passing the sign that apparently read no trespassing. Later after getting the shots that I wanted I was stopped by a sherrif and he told me that I was trespassing and to not come back. There’s nothing like a little adventure. Greg Deakins

Atticus- Our Bunny

Atticus Finch Deakins born February of 2006 died today August 24, 2008. On May 5th, 2006 Greg went into a pet store and saw a cutie white bunny with black tipped ears and a black nose. He had never had a pet in his life, so he decided to buy this cute bunny for $5 ($12 included the cage). He slept in our apartment and Greg potty trained him to go in a kitty litter box. He had some good times with Greg as you can see in the video... But mainly, he was just our precious little bunny. In Christmas of 2006 we took him to Spokane, WA to visit Greg's family because Greg didn't want him to miss out on the festivities. It was a long trip, but we let him out to hop around every chance we got. We bought him a sweater that year that he wore in our Christmas Card. Once Ellie came into our lives Atticus welcomed her with open paws... She loved to pet him, and loved to chase him around the backyard. Atticus loved to hop around the backyard at Grandma Jackie's house. He would usually eat some of her nice flowers and then have a nap in the shade. Our little family will miss Atticus very much. We love him.

Ok, so it took us two days to find this store. I finally found it, and I bought my first pair of Christian Louboutin shoes. They are my prized posession. Ellie will someday inherit them, and I won't tell you how much they cost. They are a work of art! I carried them home on the airplane in my purse because I love them so much!

Not my idea. This guy stopped me and would not let us go until he drew me. He even did it for free. He said he would use it for his portfolio. Very strange but apparently I was some kind of hottie in paris. I was hit on a total of 10 times in a week. Not just hit on though, some of them wanted to take me to their hotels! WHAT! I had my wedding ring on, but they still persisted. Those french men!
